As I sit at a desk for most of my day now, I have started doing things that I have never been able to do before.
Disclosure: I have gone through all of the proper steps to now know my job and computer system for my employer. I am in a sales driven business, and contrary to popular belief, we don't have customer's sitting in front of us every hour of every day. Also, because my integrity is important to me, you should also know that 90% of my income is tied to commissions, not a time clock. So - what I do at work is my business as long as I take care of my customer's when they are here!
As I was saying.... So, most days I get to look at all of my favorite blogs, check out the long and sometimes frivolous world of Facebook "Hey Jenny from high school that I haven't seen since graduation, you enjoy that Latte you are going to get for yourself and your BFF!" I check out business websites of competitors, our own website, etc. www.bishs.com (See, I told you I was at work!)
And then, one day, I was really bored. I realized that I needed some music. I had a friend tell me about www.pandora.com.
This website is cool. Basically, you create your own station. I am not sure how creating "Journey" station brought in all of the other "related" music that I have been able to obtain, but Pandora is "Smart". Journey music spawned other artists like Genesis, Survivor, Heart, Rush, etc. I can add other artists to my station - I added "The Who" Then Tom Petty songs started working into the mix as well as The Doors, Stones, Beatles. Then, some Coldplay song. What the Hell? The best part is the "thumbs down" icon. Click on that - No more Coldplay! Add Scorpions, get Metallica, Tesla, Ozzy added to the mix. Don't like Tesla, thumbs down 'em. You get the picture?
Ooooh, Speak to me/Breath by Floyd is playing right now. Run, Rabbit run! See? Cool stuff. So, if I could, I would light up a doobie and chill. Err, just kidding about the doobie.
Anyways, I am like a kid in a candy store.
Maybe this afternoon I will create a 80's hair metal station. Ooooh, the possibilities. I wonder if Mozart could have his own station......
I like Pandora, too! i have a very odd collection of stations - everything from Everclear to a kids station that plays disney stuff and Laurie Berkner. Only thing I don't like about it is the ads and the volume. I have to crank my speakers up to hear it well enough.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried playlist.com? They let you make your own playlists of whatever songs they have on file for free. I have four or five for different moods, and I love, love, love it. You can shuffle them if you want, too. Unfortunately, a lot of artists I had on some of my playlists seem to have had their best songs taken off the site so I had to remove them from my list. Like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. Oh well - still a lot of good ones.
Sorry for the rambling. :)
Cool, Thanks Bethany.
ReplyDeleteCan you get pandora on your computer? Everyone at work has them on their fancy smancy phones........wow, the posibilites for sure!
ReplyDeleteSeeing you admit to sitting at a desk made me smile, not that I am throwing mud in your face, but because you can now paint the parts on a house that could cause you to break your legs--cause you too can work from a wheel chair. Those were some good times bro!
